Senior Scientist Adult Neurology Parkinson



Introductie

As a Senior Scientist Adult Neurology Parkinson, you will be part of the Research Department within the CNS Disease Biology (Adult Neurology) group of your new employer in Amsterdam. The team contains of 4 people and they mainly focus on the development of novel gene therapy strategies for the treatment of CNS disorders of high unmet medical need, especially synucleinopathies (Parkinson’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies and multiple system atrophy). In your role you will oversee the preclinical activities of your employer’s program for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and other a-synucleopathies. You are responsible for developing novel methods, tailored to the known mechanism-of-action of the proposed gene therapy approach, aimed at showing therapeutic efficacy, in vitro and in preclinical studies.

De functie / The role

As a Senior Scientist Adult Neurology Parkinson, you will be part of the Research Department within the CNS Disease Biology (Adult Neurology) group of your new employer in Amsterdam. The team contains of 4 people and they mainly focus on the development of novel gene therapy strategies for the treatment of CNS disorders of high unmet medical need, especially synucleinopathies (Parkinson’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies and multiple system atrophy). In your role you will oversee the preclinical activities of your employer’s program for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and other a-synucleopathies. You are responsible for developing novel methods, tailored to the known mechanism-of-action of the proposed gene therapy approach, aimed at showing therapeutic efficacy, in vitro and in preclinical studies.
Specific tasks include:
- Supervising a small team of (jr.) Technicians;
- Synthesizing the input from a multidisciplinary project team in order to make decisions, and to set project priorities;
- Participating in strategy, study design and implementation of dedicated mechanistic studies to understand basic questions on underlying biology of CNS disease targets, in particular targets for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, and gene therapy approaches with therapeutic potential;
- Analyzing complex data obtained from pre-clinical studies (in vitro and in vivo);
- Understanding obtained results and place them into the context of program development;
- Bringing up ideas about the line of research and implementing the new ideas and concepts, disseminating and reporting the results;
- Disseminating results to multiple internal stakeholders;
- Writing reports for internal purpose, and if possible external purposes.

Het profiel / Your profile

You could be the ideal candidate Senior Scientist Adult Neurology Parkinson if you have successfully completed a PhD or equivalent, in cell biology, medical biology or related topic, with proven strong knowledge in the field of Parkinson’s disease and a-synucleopathies. You combine this background with at least 3 years of post-doctoral experience. To be successful in this role you need drug development experience (gene therapy or immunotherapy experience would be a plus), with good translational knowledge to understand how to bring new treatment modalities to a patients. You also need to have experience with in vitro cell models, iPSC would be highly advantageous. The more you have done with Protein based assays (Quanterix), the better. Experience with next-generation sequencing approaches, proteomics and/or metabolomics would be advantageous, including single-cell approaches. You have demonstrated experience in mechanistic studies in disease models.
It's also important that you have hands-on experience in writing, presenting, and reviewing in research documents (reports, patents, publications etc.) and that you are a team player with demonstrated management experience (technicians, students or postdocs). English is mandatory for this position, Dutch is a nice to have but not necessary.
